We are a group of everyday people looking to make big change through small bets.

You see the problems in your neighborhood. You see the decline and destructive ideas that have perpetuated the conversation. You see a series of decisions that have led to unsafe streets, isolated neighbors, lack of mobility access, and philosophies that have led to continuous decline in financial stability in our cities and counties.

We are a group of like-minded urbanists representing Detroit and the greater metro area. We came together to find community and to have conversations about what can make this city we love just a little better.

Who should get involved?

Everyone is welcome to participate! Strong Towns Detroit is 100% volunteer based, comprised of everyday city and suburban residents, non-profit leaders, students, developers, private sector professionals, and activists! We aim to do a lot with a little and find power in collaboration.

What does it look like to be involved?

Getting involved is non-committal. There is no obligation or expectation for how much you should participate!

Generally, we have a monthly meetup where we discuss what’s going on around our communities, projects we’re involved with, and just to meetup with like-minded people!

We also have work projects (such as cleaning up a neighborhood, performing a safety study on an intersection, doing a tactical urbanism project, etc.), we go to local government sessions to advocate, we coordinate with neighborhood and business association groups to help solve needs in neighborhoods, we write articles, we host events, and more! Whatever your passion and skillset, you are needed!
